That would be fun! Who lives in the warmest climate? Let's plan to meet there. Haha, its snowing here. I know I sound like a commercial...but Netflix has an option where you can watch movies with a party. I've never used it. But it would be kind of cool to watch an instant play movie together too!

Its an online dvd rental site. Very popular here in the states and Canada. Paris sounds good anytime of year.

I think Mexico would be the warmest climate But I haven't seen the snow in a while so... I vote for Ireland or England ... or Paris, Paris sounds good for me heh Now that I think about it... mmh.. it was snowing here last MAY, I mean cum' on! The sky isn't even cloudy in winter but it snows in May? jeez! Hey watch movies with a party, that's great, I suppose you must have an account in Netflix so you can make a party, right? Back on topic... whats the release date for Tron?

I love colder climates! not freezing though, and definately not hot/humid. I have no idea what dry hot climate feels like. It's so humid in Il. in the summer. I think its the combo of the cornfields and the lake
...but yes about Tron, that comes out this Friday. There arent many showings listed yet for my area.

Okay so now that we approach the release date of Tron I have been thinking that I kind of wish I did not know Cillian was going to be in it. It would have been such a great surprise to see him. Oh well at least this way I know he is only going to be in it for like two seconds and I won't be looking for him throughout the film.

Mokey I kind of wish the same thing too! But now at least we have something to look forward to before his other movies. Even if it just a short cameo.

OOOH, if only Inception were real! I was looking through Tron's action figures (again) today. Not there. @#$%! They had a special screening around here today. I think it was a media viewing. Gave away 2 sets of tix, but I couldn't score. Hopefully they went to real Tron fans. Has anyone seen the video game? Just wondering if, by chance......?

OMG! I've been behind on Cillian news, and I just read about this over at CillianSite! I wasn't really that interested in this movie -- I thought it looked a tad bit cheesy, but I kinda thought the lead guy looked cute. LOL. But I wasn't going to see it just for the cute guy, but now that Cillian possibly has a cameo in it... hmm, I might reconsider. That's so exciting! It comes out this weekend, and I'm wondering if I should go see it just for the Cillian cameo. If you guys do see it, could you guys report whether Cillian makes an appearance or not?

We'll be charging off to see it this weekend-- assuming what happened last weekend (twenty-plus inches of snow followed by minus-minus temperatures) doesn't return for a repeat performance. Dame Helen and The Tempest will have to wait!
*****
Maybe the weirdest thing anyone could say about this... but, besides Cillian's cameo, they had me at "contrabassoon." See, I downloaded the soundtrack from iTunes, and in the orchestra listing in the digital booklet there's a credit for a contrabassoonist.
I love contrabassoon.
Okay, okay: an explanation. What the hell is a contrabassoon, anyway...? It's like a bassoon-- that thing in the woodwinds section that looks like a smokestack-- and it has all the agility and four-octave range of its traditional, "one-fold" counterpart, only its starting range is a full octave lower. The contrabassoon can produce bass tones that are absolutely primordial in nature. It's as if you can hear the tectonic plates singing: the tone shivers right up through the floorboards of the concert hall. Mahler used the contrabassoon for the deepest of earth-tones in his symphonies; anyone nowadays who orchestrates for this great beast gets a thumbs-up from me by default.
And-- don't get me wrong-- it's a great soundtrack. The last track might have gone out on more of a bang, but that's a programming quibble. There's some lovely, epic stuff here. Right on par with my all-time faves, the soundtracks from Conan the Barbarian (no lie: it's still a world-beater), Metropolis, Alien 3, Red Planet, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and Sunshine....

Contrabassoon! I played in an orchestra (flute, oboe) for 5 years and had never heard one. Interesting!

They're really pretty rare. Don't think they saw much use up until the late-Romantic/early-Modern era in classical music.
I played clarinet and bassoon in orchestras and bands for twelve years-- the contrabassoon was sort of a Holy Grail thing for me. Didn't see one in the flesh until the Minnesota Orchestra really started getting its Mahler groove on about three years ago.... Actually, one great place to hear contrabassoon is in the opening bars of Also Sprach Zarathustra, known evermore as the theme song of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Honestly, it sounds almost like a synthesizer-- the pitch is that impossibly deep-- but that double-reed burr gives it an organic quality that sinks right into your bones....
In more-on-topic news, rumor has it that Cillian is Bearded Cillian in Tron. Will know for sure in approximately forty-four hours....
;D

I'll keep my eyes peeled for Cilly.
