I really fancy Enda Walsh. I know, I know, it's weird. But I think he's really quirky and attractive so I'm glad I bought the book. Any man who can rock those pants is good enough in my book. He looked like a timid schoolboy when he entered the theatre but when he sat down and started talking he was animated and amazing. He was talking about all of his plays. People look for deeper meaning in them and it seems that he's quite straightforward a lot of the time. He kept saying "Oh, that wasn't intentional but I'm just going to make myself look clever and pretend that it was." I'm worried about spoiling with my review so I'll have to be careful. There is so much to say and it's hard to say it without giving specifics away. But let me just say that Mrs Cleary was BEYOND what I was expecting. Jesus Christ It was disturbing. In a good way.

Oh...as for the audience response, the National Theatre are a tough crowd to crack it seems. But he did it.
The two nights I went (especially the first), the lobby was full of what I can only describe as frustrated elderly upper class theatre goers, a lot of whom did not even know who Cillian was ("Oh, I've seen Cold Mountain" one said "but the rest of these films are not something I'd put myself through"). Seriously, we were the youngest there by at least fifty years. During the Q&A with Enda Walsh you got the impression that they were AVID attendees who perhaps weren't accustomed to a play such as Misterman which warps the mind and isn't precisely conventional. Some of the questions were bewildering to me. Totally over my head. It seemed they were over the interviewer's head too.
On both nights the crowd gradually warmed up. For his third curtain call they were all on their feet and giving it loads. The woman in front of me was so emotionally enveloped that she was clinging to her husband and sobbing her heart out by the end.
At the end he had the old ladies eating out of the palm of his hand. Some of the comments I heard on the way out were just comically great and spoken in true Queen's English. Amazing.

The thing with the Daily Mail is that they not only can't actually put out a decent article, they can't handle the criticism.
This is the paper who, after Leo Messi scored a hat trick, criticised him for the two goals he missed and stated that a '3 in 5 ratio isn't perfect'.
We refer to them as the Daily Fail here for obvious reasons.

Years ago there was this appalling article on the Daily Mail, stating Alan Rickman had been "rude" to the author of the article, refusing to sign "an autograph for his children". Too bad for the journo, my friends were there and they witnessed the whole scene, it was *not* as he had written...Too bad the journo had published his e-mail address. There was a deluge of e-mails telling him he was a slob Daily Mail, they are in my black book! Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but lazy journalism and plain maliciousness should not find any place in a decent newspaper.

Great news! Cillian has been nominated for a New York Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. And Greg Clarke - cruelly overlooked in the Irish Times Theatre awards - has been nominated for Outstanding Sound Design www.dramadeskawards.com/2012-nominees.html

Thanks, Landmark!! May I be the first to give an early congratulations to Cillian for winning... because from what I hear, this performance is so astonishing that there is no way he will lose.

Great news! Awarded or not awarded, being nominated is just a big honour. But he'll win. I'm sure.

Christopher Nolan was at the theatre last night to see Misterman stumbled across a few tweets. (I stumbled, not Mr Nolan!)
