i wrote a fanfic a while back, and another forum member convinced me to post it outside of LJ. so, here goes! ___________ A Memo. PG, Dr. Crane/OC, i don't own Jonathan Crane or Cillian Murphy.
Chapter 1. As Catalina Williams walked into Arkham Asylum, she wasn't even sure if she was OK about taking this job. Becoming secretary for Dr. Jonathan Crane didn't seem like the best job. Sure, she's done it for many other people. Businessmen or lawyers, usually. Not for a man who ran a madhouse. "What have I done? I have no clue what to expect." Even her concience didn't have much hope. But Catalina kept walking, her heels clicking on the white tile of the immaculate floors. She had reached the end of a hall, where a metal door bearing a plate stated that it was, indeed, Dr. Crane's office. Catalina wanted to turn on her heel and run. But instead, she opened the door and stepped in. Dr. Crane's waiting room was very under-furnished. There were a few cheap plastic chairs at a wall, and a large wooden desk facing right at them. It felt cold and unwelcoming, much like the rest of the asylum. There was another door, probably leading to Crane's main office. Catalina decided to knock. "Come in, please." She bit her lip and opened the door. Dr. Crane's main office was the opposite of the waiting room. It had a comfortable looking couch, even though it was a very ugly color of green. There were wood floors and a wooden bookcase. The doctor himself was sitting at a wooden desk. He was dressed sharply in a black pinstriped suit with a red tie. His distinct glasses were slipping off of his face just the slightest. He was beaming as he stood and extended his hand. "You must be my new secretary, Miss Williams." Catalina smiled and shook the doctor's hand. His hand wasn't cold and clammy, as she expected. Instead, it was soft and warm. "It's very nice to meet you, Doctor." Crane let go of her hand, but was still smiling. "Please, call me Jonathan." Catalina intertwined her fingers behind her. First name basis on the first day? That wasn't usual. "Oh...alright." Dr. Crane pushed in his chair and asked if she would be interested in a tour of the facility. "Will I need to go to different areas of the building?" "Oh, no. You'll just be at your desk", Crane stated. "Then I'll decline for now." The doctor sat back down in his large chair. "Alright. Then I'll just go over what I need you to do for me while you work here." Catalina nodded as Crane picked a paper out of a folder. "I'll need you to write business letters to my arseociates, open mail, sort files, and schedule appointments." She was expecting "get me lunch and clean my shelves" as well, but was surprised when it was not mentioned. He seemed bossy. Guess she was proved wrong in that aspect. "You get an hour for lunch and you'll usually work from 8 am to 6 pm. Are we clear?" Catalina spoke a simple "Yes" of understanding and Crane sent her out. She sat at her desk in the cold room. It had a computer, which was already on, and a printer was nearby. "Thank God. At least I'm not working with a typewriter again." She nosed around the drawers, finding nothing out of order. Paper clips, a bottle of White Away, scissors, pens and pencils. Things people would see as "typical supplies". "Miss Williams, can I see you?" The suddenness of his call made her jump from her seat. She opened his office door and was met face to face with Johnathan. He held out a crisp letter. "I need you to copy this and..." In his other hand was an address book. "...Send it to all of these people." Catalina smiled and nodded politely. "Of course, sir." Maybe working here would'nt be so terrible. ____________

here's the next chapter! ____________ Chapter 2.
Catalina had been sitting at home after her third day of work. She dressed in her pajamas and began thinking over her day. Working at the asylum wasn't terrible. It was actually quite easy. Dr. Crane would give her simple things to do, and she would take lunch breaks at a small restaurant down the block. People would come in, but would leave in less than an hour. Nothing abnormal had happened. Her thoughts were mainly focused on Dr. Crane. With his slim figure, soft hands, and brilliant eyes, she found him very attractive. Even though she had seen him on TV, he was more stunning in real life. Catalina shook her head and picked up her suspence novel. She can't be immediately attracted to her boss. So she hoped. ~ Catalina was back at her desk in the cold waiting room, sorting patient papers by title. Even though she wore a suitjacket to work, it didn't make her warm. She shivered frequently over the days, even if she was typing. Since there was no one that had a appointnent with Dr. Crane, she walked to Dr. Crane's door and knocked, hoping he could do something about the temperature. "You can come in." She slipped in the partially opened door. "Sir, I-" Dr. Crane tutted. "I mean, Jonathan...it's very cold at my desk." Crane expressed a ammount of concern from his usually serious face. "I can bring in a heater for you, if you would like." Jonathan smiled, placing clasped hands on his desk. "Oh, that would be very helpful." Catalina was smiling as well. She had thought her request would be ignored or rejected. "I don't want my secretary shivering while she's working, do I?" "I...I guess not." "Of course not. I'll get right on that heater for you, Cata-" Catalina was beginning to step out as Dr. Crane stopped himself. "Uhm...you don't mind if I don't call you Miss Willams, correct?" Catalina spun around. "No, not at all." "What else can I call you?" Dr. Crane had a very interested look on his face. Catalina felt her insides jump a bit. "Catalina...Cata..." Dr. Crane's smile grew. "Do you mind if I make pet names for you?" She was taken aback by this. Pet names? Even the people she worked for called her Catalina at the most casual. "What kind of pet names?" Dr. Crane wasn't smiling anymore. He was grinning ear to ear. "Sugar? Darling, sweetheart..." He began to get up from his chair and stood in front of her. Catalina's heart beat viciously against her chest. What was he doing? Dr. Crane laughed again. "What about "precious"? Catalina nevously laughed as Crane brushed back her unruly bangs from her face. "So...how about it?" "S-Sure..." How could she deny him? She thought that if a man she finds attractive calls her anything sweet, she should not argue against it. Catalina smiled. "Well, that's good. I thought you would decline." She laughed now. "No, I don't mind it..." Crane sat back down. "I'll get on that heater right now!" Dr. Crane picked up the phone, which had been hanging off the hook, and dialed a number as Cata left. Once back at her desk, she went back to work, wondering why that had even happened. __________ *shrug*

Crane went from formal names to first names to "pet names" in one scene? Ohh boy. No wonder she's seriously unnerved! Bet he was enjoying her discomfort too. Posting more soon?

____________
Chapter 3.
When Catalina showed up for her fourth day on the job, she pretty much knew what to expect. Except Dr. Crane standing by her desk. Her heart pounded in her chest. "Oh! Hello Doctor Crane." Crane smiled. "You look very ravishing today." Catalina blushed and lost eye contact with him. She had put on a skirtsuit today, since it was Friday and she wanted to look her best at the beginning and end of the weeks. The red shirt and silk tie underneath brightened up the black suit. "Thank you, Doctor." "You're very welcome. Also, are there any appointments for me today?" Catalina shook her head. "No, sir, there are none." "Excellent. I left some small work on your desk, and I will be in my office if you need anything." She nodded and smiled as he walked away. She also noticed that the heater showed up. ~ As she returned from lunch, she found more work placed on her desk. More things to copy and new letters to type. The phone rang as she sat down, scaring her a bit. "Dr. Crane's office, can I help you?" She heard a laugh on the other end. "Cata dear, can I see you for a second?" "Uhm...sure, Doctor." She hung up the phone, not used to his pet names, and walked to Crane's office door. She didn't knock this time, but just opened the door and walked toCrane's desk. She stood with her hands holding each other in front of her. Jonathan had his hands on his desk with a pleasant look on his face. "I have two things to address with you." Catalina was scared by this development. Did she ruin something? Mess up a letter somehow? "First, please stop calling me Doctor. Like I said..." He reached for Catalina's left hand and massaged it. "...call me Jonathan." Catalina felt a wave of warmth run over her. "Secondly, I'd like to ask you out tonight for dinner." She was grinning now. He did like her. And only after four days of work. "I'd love to, Jonathan." Crane kissed her hand gently. "I have your number already, so I will call you." Catalina nodded and began to leave. "But probably be ready by eight. OK, sweetheart?" "Alright Doc-I mean Jonathan." Cata sat down calmly. Then she proceeded to giddily jump in her computer chair. But she remembered the work she had to do, and got started on the copies. ~ When her phone rang, she calmly picked it up. She greeted Crane with the utmost confidence and calmness. "Hello, Jonathan?" She heard the same laugh that she heard at the office. "Hello to you too." Catalina felt giddy. I mean, it was a date with her boss. "So, I'm going to stop by your house pretty soon...I'm actually on my cell phone." Catalina was knocked back from glee. He was coming to her house...now? "Where are you?" "Hmm...about two miles from you." Catalina was going insane in her mind. Good thing she was dressed. She was already wearing makeup, so there was no need to apply more. She had figured to wear jewelery, and after snapping her earrings closed, there was a buzz from her intercom. "Crane?" It honestly could be anyone, so it was a good idea to check before buzzing them up. "Jonathan, darling." She let him in and leaned on the back of her couch. The knock on her door was soft and she felt warm again. Catalina opened the door to find Dr. Crane dressed as he usually was. Pinstriped suit, impeccable blue tie, white shirt. His hands were behind his back. "Hi Jonathan." _____________ D:

Chapter 4.
Jonathan exposed his hands, showing he held a bouquet of pink roses. "I needed to get you some sort of present." Catalina grinned with delight. A whole bouquet...of roses? She's gotten flowers, but not a full bouquet of longstem roses. "Come in while I put these away." Crane stepped in and looked around. Catalina's apartment had a red theme. Burgandy walls, red oak furniture with red cushions. "You seem to be a fan of red." Catalina had a shy smile now as she put water in a red vase in her kitchen. "It's such a rich color...distinctive", said Crane. She looked up from placing the roses in the vase one by one. "So you like red as well?" He laughed slightly. "It's a good color, definitely. But I like it the most when you wear it." Catalina had been wearing lots of red to the office. Jonathan stood and watched Catalina place the last of the roses into the vase. "I like a lot about you, though. Your skin...it's amazing." Cata looked up. "How so?" "It's very evenly toned and very soft." Catalina was blushing as she walked out of the kitchen. "And your hair. It's so dark and stunning. Tell me...why do you always wear it up?" Catalina kept the bun from when she was working. "I find it difficult to deal with." She sat down and Crane followed. "Can you take it down...for me?" "Uhm...alright..." She unsnapped her hair clip and her black hair cascaded down her shoulders and across her back. Jonathan brushed stray locks away from her face. "And your eyes...that brilliant green..." Crane cupped her face gently and brushed his thumbs across her cheekbones. "And your lips...I don't even know how to describe them." He brushed the outline of her lips very lightly. It sent a chill through her. "But that's just your outside. I think you have an excellent personality and you seem very confident, as well." Jonathan put his hands down. "We should get going." ~ Crane drove an impressive car. "So you drive a Jaguar to work?" Crane grinned as he openned Catalina's door. "Yes, I guess I do." She sat on the well cushioned leather and fully enjoying it. Her car didn't have a leather interior, and she didn't know many people that did. And for the few that did, she didn't get to sit in it. Jonathan got in and started the car. "So, where are we going?" "It's a surprise." Surprise? Catalina wasn't a fan of surprises. "Can you tell me what type of restaurant it is?" "It's not French. Or Italian." "Is it Japanese?" Crane didn't say anything. "It's that new Japanese restaurant that opened near the museum, isn't it?" "Yes, it is. It's called Houkou." Catalina wasn't positive that she would be able to order anything. She had no issue with the language. But she wasn't very familiar with Japanese cuisine. "Do you mind if I ask you a question?" Catalina looked up from the floor. "Sure, go ahead." "What do you do in your free time?" "Hm...I like to read, play tennis, shop, dance...that's about all." "what do you like to read?" Crane glanced at her from his focus on the road. "Mysteries and suspence novels." Cata smiled as Crane stopped talking. "Look, here we are." _____________ i still think i'm way cheesy D:
