Chapter 6.
Cata spent the weekend getting calls from Jonathan, apologizing for being busy. She didn't mind it at all, she was still
elated from their date..
When she came in Monday morning, Dr. Crane had left his door open and looked up from his work to wave.
"Good morning!"
Catalina waved back, grinning.
"Good morning to you, too!"
She was very excited about how today would turn out as Jonathan stepped out of his office.
"I need to go see a patient. Come with me and take notes."
She nodded and found a pad of paper and a pen. Crane held out his hand and helped her out of the chair. The two took a walk
to the elevators and Jonathan pressed the up button.
Cata sighed in relief as the elevator opened, completely empty. Crane stepped in first and Cata followed.
"What level is the patient on", she enquired as the doors closed.
"Three. Don't worry, he's not a danger to anyone."
There was a silence, and the door opened shortly after. They turned to the left where they were
greeted by a worker.
"Dr. Crane, we have Mr. Banks in a interviewing cell."
"Excellent."
Jonathan followed the worker and Catalina tagged behind. She hoped the clicking of her wooden heels wasn't bothering anyone.
The worker stopped at a door and Dr. Crane thanked him as he left. Jonathan opened the door and walked in. Catalina was
slightly afraid, but walked in as well.
"Hello, Mr. Banks. How are you today?"
Mr. Banks was a man who looked as if he was in his late twenties. His skin was pale, and his frame was very thin.
His face had extremely sharp features. His brown eyes shifted between the doctor and Catalina.
"I'm doing alright...Who's this with you?"
"This is only my secretary, she's just here to take notes."
He waved at Cata and she waved back with a smile.
"Oh, alright."
All of them sat down and the interview began.
"Mr. Banks, tell me why you're here."
"Mainly, my family's worried about me. I haven't been outside in months, I'm afraid of what might happen if I go out there..."
Dr. Crane grinned slightly at the patient's fear. Cata was too busy writing to notice.
"So...You're afraid of the elements? People? Or just crime?"
"All of them...terrify me..."
~
Cata's pad of paper was covered with writing. Dr. Crane asked her to take notes, and that's what she did.
"I'll only ask you to come with if I have a patient I know isn't dangerous."
Jonathan and Cata were walking back to his office after the interview.
"I trust you, Jonathan."
Jonathan opened the door for her and she sat back at her desk.
"Can you type up what you wrote? Just for neatness. Bring them to me when you're done, please."
Catalina nodded and began to type her notes. Jonathan went back into his office.
When Cata was finished, she went into his office and put it neatly on his desk. He read through the paper quickly and smiled.
"Excellent work. You were very attentive."
Cata smiled, happy at his approval.
"Can I ask you something, Miss Williams?"
"Absolutely."
"What are you afraid of?"
Catalina was startled by the question.
"Why do you ask?"
Crane tilted his head slightly.
"No reason."
"Spiders, snakes...heights."
Jonathan folded his hands together on his desk.
"Very common fears. Do you know how they developed?"
"I dropped a doll out the window when I was little. It was on the 5th floor of a building...and it broke into pieces.
I used to be afraid that if I got too close to a high window, I'd break like the doll. Now, I'm just not fond of
being far from the ground."
Crane looked very interested and was now smiling.
"What about the spiders, the snakes?"
"I'm not very sure."
Jonathan stood up, and she took a step back. He placed his palms on his desk.
"Surely you remember."
"I really don't, sir."
He sighed and sat back down.
"You can go now."
Catalina quietly left, somewhat frightened at Dr. Crane's sudden brain picking. And the smile he had during it scared
her even more. She didn't start working here for analysis.
