Um, being from a mostly Italian-American family, I don't think they'd EVER let me be a vegitarian. Our main courses, which are eaten at least once a week, always invovle either lamb or saucage or meat balls. Trust me, I'd cut out a lot of meat if I could. I have stomach problems and I'm thinking it's after I eat meat because everytime I have just a salad a lunch I'm fine afterwards.

I've a bunch of friends who are vegetarians. I've tried, I really have. I was doing pretty well until Jenn's b-day party last night. She had pineapple & ham pizza. I was finishing off my fourth slice when it suddenly hit me that there was ham on the pizza. *sigh* I must be more careful.

My parents made fun of me, too. They were not supportive at ALL when I started. They didn't think it would last. I've been a vegetarian for a year and a half now. Good luck, guys! It's tough at first...but you will feel so much better, trust me!

I don't think I could ever be a vegetarian. I don't eat meat a whole lot, but if I don't have it for dinner at least, I just don't feel full. I really respect those who are vegetarians because it takes a lot of self-control! That's a cute slogan though.

WooHoo!!!!!!!! I am glad it worked. I love them. I ended up getting sick this week. Fun with fevers and a runny nose. It's my second day with whatever this is and I still managed to not eat chicken soup. lol. I am watching my niece and nephew this week so thats been interesting on it's own. I made veggie soup today. I bought veggie stock and filled it with a million vegs. The kids actually liked the soup. Of couse I made them grilled cheese with it. .lol Tonight I am making them mini veggie pizzas. So far so good. They seem to be fine. I have no problem making them foods with meat. I just thought they could try a bit of my foods as well.

Yay! Sounds like you guys are doing well! I swear I posted on here yesterday but it didn't post, and it took me a while to type it. Grr.
Anyway, yeah, my parents didn't want me to become vegetarian when I started off (7 years ago)- I remember they ended up letting my older brother be vegetarian, and forced me to keep eating meat, when I wanted to be vegetarian first. A lot of my friends who aren't vegetarians always poke fun about it, but I'm used to it now.
I remember when a couple of my best friends tried to become vegetarian, they stopped after a couple of weeks- their excuse? "My doctor says I have to stop". Sure... I'm sorry, but you don't suddenly become unhealthy from not eating meat over 2 weeks. It was pretty obvious that they missed meat. There are plenty of meat-alternatives out there that even taste like meat, for those that have a hard time smelling it and keeping away.
Advice? Take supplements for iron and stuff. Although if you eat plenty of green vegetables you should be alright. Don't cut out milk, cheese, eggs etc (although I don't eat eggs- don't like them). Eat fish because its healthy, if you don't mind eating fish that is (I don't like the taste of fish, or the idea of killing them).
Is everyone becoming proper vegetarians? If you are... Don't eat anything with gelatine of rennet it. Gelatine is an animal product made from bones and hooves- usually found in jellies (jello?), jellied and powdered sweets. Rennet comes from the stomach lining of calves- can be found in unhealthy foods like crisps (chips, for you Americans), and in some chocolate (ewww!). The best way to become vegetarian is to not think about it being healthy [because we all know how the mindset of eating healthily (e.g. diets) doesn't work]. Just think about how the animals feel. I think it's cruel to eat meat, which was why I started in the first place. Put myself in the animals' shoes (hooves, whatever)... And that would probably account for my fear of meat now! Lol.
hedwigsgal, it's good that you can still cook meat for your neice and nephew... I don't know what I'm gonna do when I have a husband and kids to cook for! I hope Mr Right is a vegetarian!

Awwww, feel better, hun! And don't worry, if it was Campbell's chicken soup, I don't think it's really chicken. Doesn't taste like chicken, at least...what the devil, suddenly I'm hungry for chicken soup.....
*runs* *grabs pot* *fills pot with water* *turns on stove* *places pot on stove* *excitedly waits in anticipation...then...* *remembers that you don't fill the pot with water...and that you need the can of soup* *looks for can of soup. can't find any* *runs (literally) to grocery store...I doubt you'll ever see her again.*

You guys always seem to be getting the flu! I've only had it properly about 2 times (that I can remember). The other times were colds. And I've had loads of those. Hope you feel better.

Hedwigsgal and Miho, get well soon!!!! *hand a hot tea* You caught the flu, so this are extenuating circumstances ... chickensoup is your medicine!!! You need it to get well again, so the diet isn´t going to hell!!! Some of this instant chickensoups are only with chicken flavor theres not one gram chicken in it ... but they dind´t taste very well ... if I had chickensoup it´s alway homemade! Nine days now and still it works fine!!! Was at subways today an got a Tuna-sandwich ... I´m glad that I didn´t quit eating fish!!!! If I have to prepare meat for someone else, of course I´ll get a problem ... because of the smell ... Yesterday our neighbours had a Barbecue ... and the smell of grilled meat let me get apettite ... But I´m able to dispute!!! *be a bit proud* ;D I´m feeling much better without eating meat, seams to be good for my stomage!
