I almost feel guilty about posting this but I guess any damage is already done and they were on a public street. Celebs Shun the Camera...(Jo if you think it's inappropriate I can delete.)

I actually would prefer not to post anything of his private life here. The article alone leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Congrats to the newlyweds!

Jo, do you want me to delete the link?
I have very mixed emotions about this type of situation. I absolutely hate how the media hounds celebrities. I think they have no right to chase them or try to shoot them at a private home or location. However, when celebs go to a well-known restaurant or for a stroll down a major street in a major city (especially with other celebs), I sort of think they can expect to possibly be photographed. Friends tell me that in most cases -- say if you are not Madonna -- a quick pose or two and that will end it. I don't know...but I think Cillian probably should start expecting it and have a plan about how to handle it. If his career continues on the up swing and he becomes more famous, my guess is that it will happen more and more often.

Having a plan to cope with photographers etc. is a good idea. For sure, this will happen increasingly. It's kind of ironic really - this is a fan site and obviously people here would probably want to sneak a peek at the article, like I did. Doesn't mean we should. It can be difficult to to balance your interest with respect - especially when this is all so anonymous. I would never think of personally bothering someone in the street. Anyway, I guess we all have to draw our lines.

It's fine. I figure in order to read the posts you have to be a member anyway. If comments become derogatory, then we'll see.

Asha, I would never approach a celebrity anywhere to talk or ask for an autograph or anything else. But people seem to do it surprisingly often even when it isn't their job. How could you walk up to someone in a restaurant while they are dining and interrupt? But it happens.
I used to see a lot of famous people in airports when I traveled frequently. Sometimes you would see a little trail of folks behind them as they walked along -- separate from any entourage but whispering and pointing, etc. It was like they were waiting to pounce. Anonymity is more valuable than we realize.

I think it all depends on your approach right?

Ahhh, you can't get away from Showbiz Ireland! Sadly, C&Y will just have to get used to it - & the pics only got published because they did something worth talking about. Better to be boring, smile, say hi lads, and the shots mostly won't even get developed never mind published. Don't have a problem with the link being posted here - it's a news article, as Bobby says, it's out there anyway. A bit unpleasant, but not really scandalous. Bit of a shame their day off got ruined though. Cheers ~Ultra

Heh. gracey, I think you need to explain what your definition of the proper approach is...

You're SO right, Bobby. I always find that running at gorgeous famous guys in public places naked with EAT ME written in chocolate across my chest makes them run the wrong way! Not once have I managed to get an autograph or pic. ;D ;D ~Ultra

Heh. gracey, I think you need to explain what your definition of the proper approach is... I tried Ultra's chocolate approach and of course was put away for a few months .... I think if you have the courage to approach someone who you admire ...an author/actor/musician etc.... then it's fine to just shake their hand and let them know your appreciation(avoiding being over zealous! )and then leave . After all , to quote Depeche Mode: 'people are people' ...celebrities at one point in their life were average joes and I'm sure they have a list of people they respect, admire and have silly crushes! Remember at last years Oscars when Keisha Castle-Hughes(Whalerider) was introduced to Johnny Depp ? He was more nervous and starstruck than her!(Bless him , he was so gracious though!) Screaming, crying ,following celebs around... well that's another story eh?! ;D Being hunted by the press et al, is the other edge of the double edge sword that is being a handsome talented actor . (Un)fortunately for Cillian , he is about to star in some major films and is beyond beautiful , so I'm afraid he is going to encounter Cillianmania soon(we're Cillian fan veterans now!)...but I have no fear of his 'fame' management, perhaps he'll throw his cell into a river Jonathan Rhys Myers style! ;D and retreat into the depths of Irelands countryside!

Gracey, it's one thing to approach someone in an appropriate place - book signing, movie event whatever but I don't think it's right to confront someone on the street while they're going about their private life. Truly, I don't think that's fair. I'll be in Dublin and London in a week and if I happen to spot Cillian (or anyone else I admire) he could walk right by me on Grafton Street and I wouldn't say a word. Now if I had a proper introduction that's a different story . You've got me curious with that Jonathan Rhys Myers comment. What's the story there?

I absolutely agree with you about confronting a celebrity in the street being a bit off ...I imagined a scenario more on the lines of comic con , or if you are lucky enough,an event/party(I wish!) That's the cool thing about NY(where I'm at), you see famous types allover the place but no one really gives a hoot ..perhaps a double take or a whisper to a friend . Asha, even though you wouldn't approach Cillian, I'm sure you would get a little adrenalin rush if you saw him on the street ! I know my stomach would be full of butterflies. re: J rhys Myers: 'But Rhys Meyers is continuing to steer clear of Hollywood's star system. He's even banished his cell phone—the social lifeline of the Western world—to the depths of the River Shannon, "If someone wants me enough, they'll find me," he says. Adrenalin rush - yup, to say the least ;D. I live near Toronto so there isn't a shortage of celebs here either. Most people try to stay cool. Intriguing about JRM. Just makes him even more attractive.
