Chapter 14...the last chapter!!
*********************************
When Lisa was able to stop screaming she stared at the two men lying on the floor at her feet. Canaan had been shot twice in the shoulder and once in the chest. He wasn't moving but his eyes were open and looking around. Jackson was struggling to breathe from being shot twice in the chest. He would cough every few seconds and blood would spray out of his mouth. He pressed a hand to his wounds. Both men reached an arm out for Lisa.
Her eyes darted back and forth from each bleeding man. She loved Canaan, no doubt about that. He was charming and treated her with honor and respect. And he was wealthy and provided well for her. But as she looked into Jackson's dying eyes she realized how much she'd be lost without him. The memories from that terrifying plane trip flashed through her mind. He was evil, yes. But he also truly loved Lisa. He wanted to be with her. As his eyes began to get heavier and cloudy and his breathing weakened, Lisa ran to his side. She knelt down and lifted his head, cradling it in her arms. She put a hand over his hand that was covering his injuries. It was covered in blood. Tears streamed down her face.
"Jackson," she sobbed. "I love you. Please stay with me. I don't want you to go."
His body trembled as he struggled to breathe.
"You...you mean...that?" he whispered.
She nodded. "Yes, Jackson. I want you. I want to be with you."
He smiled. "Lise...I've...waited over a...year to hear you...say that. And now I....get to right before I....die."
He winced as he tried to speak. Tears streamed down his cheeks.
"No!" she cried. "You're not gonna die!"
Lisa pointed to her sister Julie, who sat on the altar, trembling. Her eyes were wide with shock. She couldn't stop glancing at Roland's corpse.
"Call an ambulance!" Lisa shouted. "Right now!"
Julie had somehow been able to loosen the ropes on her wrists and ankles. She obeyed her sister and searched for a telephone.

Jackson spent a month in the hospital, two of those weeks in ICU. One of the bullets had missed his heart by a mere inch. Canaan's injuries were minor. He only spent two weeks in the hospital. His left arm had been put in a sling because of his shoulder injuries. The bullet in his chest had punctured his right breast but it was nothing critical.
He moved to Los Angeles soon after his release. Julie had realized how much she was in love with him and left with him. They eloped in Las Vegas.
Jackson and Lisa were married in the hospital room while he was still bedridden. When he was released they rode to their new home together in a limo that said "just married" on the back windshield. But as Lisa held her new husband's hand and looked into his big blue eyes she wondered:
Did she make the right choice?
The End.
