How did you see it, Disarm? Was it on PPV? Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that I will be able to see this for a while, or at least until the DVD comes out for this region. I can't order PPV because I don't have the right receiver. It's always something, lol.

Cillian talks about Retreat: moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/10/20/cillian-murphy-retreat/I got mine today ;D. I won't write a review, cause I would just be repeating everything Irish_Lover and Razzthekid said, and I'm not very good at expressing myself in english. I'll just add one compliment to the list: They didn''t use excessive sound effects to scare the audience. That gave it a much more realistic feel than most movies in this genre have. I liked the music in it. All the characters had relatable qualities in them, and I'm so glad my theory about the ending was wrong. So it wasn't predictable, at least not for me. For some reason I found it a little difficult to follow the time frame(if that's the right term). Meaning I had to look for clues from their clothing and other little things to get some kind of idea about how much time had passed between the scenes. But maybe it's just me. I wasn't feeling well while watching, so it might have affected my concentration. Cillian was great. He conveys emotions so well, looks good with that right amount of facial hair, and I like his accent in the movie. I'll be watching it again soon.

Ok, I will give the most objective and spoiler-free review possible as an extreme fangirl. Maybe I will give a "Squeeview" in the Pub! Cillian returns to his uniquely nuanced style in this one, and I thoroughly enjoyed that most of all. As Martin, he is absolutely convincing at playing one half of a couple in difficulty, right down to the Icy Stare of Contempt that only the married can truly master. I swear, this man can do so very much with the flick of an eye, the faintest wrinkle of his brow, the twitch of a lip. It's always breathtaking to watch. There isn't any other actor today who can convey such meaning by expending so little effort, and that subtlety was showcased very well in this movie by the copious close-ups. As far as the plot goes, it was very tight, straightforward and wasted no time in a relentless forward motion. I only wish I had not had the ending spoiled for me yesterday by something I'd seen online; having that in mind throughout the movie shifted my entire perspective. Ultimately, I felt sorry for the characters, Martin in particular, and came away feeling slightly down at the end. Don't get me wrong, it's a well-done movie, but it did feel bleak to me. So overall I would give it a 7.5 out of 10, with the bulk of that score coming solely from the wonderfully sincere performances - Cillian's in particular. He was (as always ) completely captivating in his every screen moment. I'd still like to have seen him play the Jamie Bell role more though. Just cuz. Oh, and yes, he's irresistably gorgeous in it. Simply MUST be the more handsome man who has ever breathed air. ;D

Here we go! My humble opinion about this movie (spoiler free):
Well this movie… what to say… I would like to be able to speak a better english in order to do a good review but, as I’m not able I’ll only say a few words.
I enjoyed watching this film since it was good in general. It has a simple but effective assembly, good music, good ilumination, right quantity of tension, exellent actors performance…
But I think that this film could have been ever better! Maybe the problem was the inexperience of the director, I dunno, but I think that with this amazing premise and with this formidable cast the film could have been grandiose!! I felt like if there was something missing, maybe more intensity or more details….
EDIT:1 you're right Pisces, in this film we can see the genuine talent that Cillian has got!! He is unique in showing emotions by little details!!
EDIT 2: Ok, I watched it in bluray definition (1080p) and although it was awesome to be able to see everyting with such a good definition (I looved Cillian's closeups) I'm not sure if it is the best way to watch a film... I mean, everything seemed unreal for me... it's like if it wasn't a movie... what do you guys think about it?? Do you understand me when I say that it kind of looses a little bit of magic?

Oh well... As my hope is slowly fading that they maybe show Retreat in Swiss cinemas (because in Switzerland they show the movies in original version with subtitles) I think I just have to buy the DVD... I wanted to see the movie on the big screen, but there isn't any hint about Retreat being shown in Swiss or German cinemas. Somehow that makes me angry!! They show so much sh*t movies in cinemas, but such a good movie - referring to all the positve reviews given yet - like Retreat they just seem to overlook !! It is sad... Not even in the small independend / arthouse cinemas in my hometown they show it! Damn!

I'm with you there! I walk by the local movie theater and I frown at most of the posters... They should show movies like Retreat!

Spoilerish... Those who have seen the film: Did anyone else notice a tiny flaw in Cillian's performace somewhere around 1h 21min, or am I crazy? This household's TV is occupied right now, so I can't check the exact time. I noticed it on the first time, but thought maybe I was seeing things. Watched it again today and rewinded a couple of times. I'm 95% sure it was a mistake. Can't write what it is, cause it would be a major spoiler. I don't mean to mock him by nitpicking. He would have to make a lot more mistakes to make me like him any less. Not even sure if it was a mistake, cause there might be one logical explanation to it. I just wanted to ask if anyone has been wondering the same.
