Thank you to those who PM'd me, I will look for that mistake now once the DVD is released. lol! I missed it completely, even after watching it twice.
Thanks too for sharing your opinions on WTSTB. I may have to give it another viewing with a fresh pair of eyes, now that I've read so many complimentary reviews of Orla's performance too. I certainly like EOL much better the second time, so perhaps it will be with this one as well. You have given me new elements to watch for and consider, so thanks! And yes, it is undoubtedly a very special and poignant film for anyone with Irish heritage.

Do let us know what you think about it, Cait, I watched it last week and I found it very interesting. It's difficult to to talk about Retreat without spoiling any of the plot, so I'll shut up for now!

Can't wait to hear your reviews, Cait and Leyla! I'm considering to buy me the german version as well... I saw it yesterday in a store and it wasn't really expensive. I couldn't follow all the lines in the English version so I think it might be a nice completion if I would also watch it in a German dub.

**This post contains major plot points of the film, for those who have not seen it!**So I FINALLY had the time to watch this!! I have to say, I really enjoyed everything about this film except for the ending. I thought the initial twist was great (that there actually was a virus), but in my opinion, the twists should have ended there. I personally think it would have been better if there was an antidote so at least Kate could have escaped. I thought the ending was too drastic and it honestly left me feeling a bit depressed afterwards. Especially seeing Cillian's body in the wheelbarrow... ugh. Cillian - Of course he was absolutely brilliant in this film. My gosh. When he broke down in the bedroom and starting cying, my heart was breaking. You know when you're watching a great actor if they can make you feel what their character is feeling. I felt and connected with his frustration and his helplessness in that moment. Also, when he got sick, he really seemed sick! It actually sounded as if he was choking and couldn't breathe...I was gasping for air along with him! LOL. So, as usual I was more than pleased with Cillian's performance. ;D Thandie - I didn't find Thandie as convincing as Cillian and Jamie. I did feel badly for her character, but there were times where she would get angry and I couldn't actually understand what she was saying because of the way she projected her voice - it might just be me. She had some strong points in her performance, but I would say it was my least favourite in the film. Jamie - I hadn't really heard of this actor before, but I thought he did a marvelous job. In order for an actor to impress me they have to be able to cry convincingly, get angry convincingly, and - as horrible as this sounds - die convincingly (lol). Obviously we didn't see his character die, but I thought he played sadistic quite well, and emotionally distraught too. Overall, good film...I will probably watch it again.

This forum doesn't have a "spoilers" tab Ok, so please beware, there are spoilers ahead S P O I L E R S Retreat isn't something I would watch often...I liked it, it's well done, though I was expecting the first twist. Guess I've seen too many sci fi and horror movies Cillian's character unfortunately had to die, I just could not see the poor chap surviving...it's quite an unsettling scene of course, I think he had great fun shooting it, guess it may bring out the child in you I kinda like Jamie Bell, but I've never been that impressed by him. Here it's no different...he's good, but he doesn't leave that impression on me. I think Cillian had a difficult character. I always repeat that playing normal is very difficult....junkies, crazies, geniuses, famous people....they're IMHO easy to play. Playing ordinary people, that's the real challenge. Cillian brings so much humanity that you cannot help sympathizing with him. And that's why in a good horror movie he had to die simple God I've only seen that scene once and my stomach is still hurting....

Finally watched Retreat this weekend (and then re-watched Sunshine to wash it out of my mind).
It was OK.
Cillian did a good job with his character as did Thandie Newton and Jamie Bell.
I really wanted one of their character's to up and say "Hey Jack, you're really not a people-person. Stop being such a creepy d*¢k." But that would ruin the whole WHO IS HE? suspense of it I guess.
SPOILER-ISH
I think it would have been a very good book. Or maybe it is based on a book but I'm too lazy to do any research on it.
But it was a bit too depressing and aimless to be an enjoyable film. I love my thrillers and horrors and suspense films but this floated with no clear point of its worth.
ALSO, realized that most of Cillian's works have some element of terror in it (A LOT) 28 Days Later (YUP AT THE END) Sunshine (DOUBLE YUP) Red Eye (SUPPOSED TO) Retreat (KIND OF)Red Lights (KING OF FEAR~! BUT MORE OF AN ACTION FLICK)Batman Begins (MOMENTS OF TERROR) Peac*ck
