this isn't technically a movie, but Cillian would have totally kicked ass as the vampire Bill Compton on HBO's True Blood series. When the hell is he going to play a vampire already?? He's physically perfect for such a role!

On the subject of TV shows, I think Cillian would have been totally kickass as either Apollo, Baltar, Anders or a whole new Cylon (most of the male ones aren't as attractive as the females, except Tyrol and Anders, but they're special types) from Battlestar Galactica.

I don't know why I am thinking this, but in film class this week we watched "Unforgiven" (1992) with Clint Eastwood as an older cowboy trying to get back into the game, and earn some money by making some kills -- and seeking revenge at the end.
Although, Cillian would have to be older for this film (and it isn't one of my favorite films -- but still a good one) I believe I'd like to see him in one of Clint's Westerns. It could be grand seeing him in the cowboy attire speaking the way that cowboys do. Their attitude, old lookin' guns, hats, and horses.

Somehow, The Shining crossed my mind recently. I watch it every Halloween, and it never fails to scare the wits out of me. I've also read somewhere that Cillian also finds it scary. I can't help but wonder if he'll be up to remaking it? I think he'll fit Jack Nicholson's role just fine. We all know that he plays crazy well. It definitely should be kept in the late 70's, early 80's time period (scarier that way for some reason). I was thinking maybe have Alex Etel play the son (he and Cillian look so much like father and son!), although he could be a bit too old for the role. Or maybe Asa Butterfield (from the new movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) is a better choice. Put Rachel McAdams in the role of the wife, and it'll be like Red Eye all over again. Heh. Naomi Watts would be a good choice, too, since she's had experience in the horror genre. I wonder if Cillian will scare himself playing the role of Jack?

Somehow, The Shining crossed my mind recently. Hello! I'm new, so if some of these were discussed already...sorry! I haven't read everything yet.
Cillian does have a knack for the more creepy and batsh*t crazy roles. I don't know about The Shining though. Kubrick and Nicholson did such a great job. That's a tough call. Cilly would be great as Jack.
I think Cillian would have made a GREAT Lestat! OMG...could you imagine? Or Dracula, even though I LOVE me some Gary Oldman with a passion.
LOL! The Scarlet Pimpernel !!!! That would be hysterical. Acting the total fop!
I really want to see him in more comedies. I was watching "Watching the Detectives" tonight and laughed it up.
Cillian is such a versatile actor, he really can do anything.
Hmmm...how about old school?
A remake of Rebecca? He would make a brooding Maxim. Cillian was made for the classics. Heathcliff, perhaps?
Okay, some of you may have not seen this little gem, but I LUVVVVV "Captain Blood". It's an early Errol Flynn flick. It does have it's cheesy moments, but if it were updated and such. Good grief, would he be a sexy beast in that film. It is a swashbuckler. Peter Blood is a doctor and he aids revolutionaries rebelling against King James. He gets captured and sold to Port Royal at a plantation. To make a long story short, he falls for the Govenor's niece (who bought him) and she makes that she doesn't like him but she does. Spanish pirates attack the colony , he and other captives break out and out wit the pirates by taking over their ship. They become some of the most feared pirates and hunted by the Govenor Bishop. In a drunken haze, Peter signs a deal with a French captain to join forces but everything turns sour when they meet on an island and Peter sees that the Governor's niece has been captured by this captain. He tries to buy her (like she bought him), but the French captain still refuses to hand her over...
and well, I'll leave the rest to your imagination. But Cillian would be great....
Who knows? Maybe Hollywood will get a bee up their arses, that if they're intent on re-making every bloody film already made, why don't they choose some good stories and decent actors. Then I actually might go to the cinema more often.
Gee, I had a lot to say for my first post, eh?

Cilly would be great as Jack. You're absolutely right. Kubrick's imagining of The Shining was pure genius, and Jack Nicholson was brilliant. He would be hard to beat. They've already remade The Shining into an American TV miniseries back in '97, and it sucked. I'm sure Cillian would be much, much better if there's ever another remake. I agree. I would love to see Cillian in more comedies. WTD wasn't the greatest movie ever, but it was entertaining enough. I don't think comedy is in Cillian's comfort zone just yet, but I'm sure practice makes perfect! I would love to see him in another romantic comedy and/or in a Simon Pegg or Seth Rogen/Judd Apatow comedy. I know that Cillian's strength lies in more serious, dramatic roles, but I would absolutely loooove to see him a light, fluffy role. I just watched The Family Man recently with Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni, and I'd thought Cillian would be great in the Nicolas' role! It was such a nice, fluffy and heartwarming movie. The role wouldn't be the most unique/challenging role ever, but it would satisfy the spot in my heart for such cheesy movies. As I was watching this, I was thinking, "Wow, I never knew Nicolas Cage has such blue eyes. Blue eyes just like Cillian." Yeah, I'm a bit obsessed. Oh, welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy your stay!

They've already remade The Shining into an American TV miniseries back in '97, and it sucked. I'm sure Cillian would be much, much better if there's ever another remake. OMG....I was going to say it and didn't. But you are right, the remake was HIDEOUS!!!! It was laughable really and King said he didn't like Kubrick's adaptation and always wanted a film 'more true to the book'. Well, King, sorry to say but Kubrick made that story scary as hell. Not to mention the miniseries cast was full of fail. I love Rebecca DeMornay, but ..ugh. It was bad. I know WTD wasn't the best film, but I still loved it. I haven't laughed that hard in a while. I've always been into the little quirky films. One of my fav films EVER is Better Off Dead with John Cusack. It is one of the dumbest damn films you'll ever see, but I laugh my butt off every single time I see it. "Come on man, it's Christmas Eve, we could be drinking egg nog that my brother makes with lighter fluid!" "Go that way....realllly fast. If something gets in your way? Turn." "Lane....I've been going to this high school for seven years...I know high school girls." I'm a total geek, I know. I have to disagree with Judd Apatow though. I think he is highly over rated. I don't mind that kind of humor, but I just didn't see what every one else was talking about. I don't really care for Seth Rogan either. Granted there are a few funny moments, but his films just don't do it for me.

It's not really my all-time favorite film but... Adrien Brody's role from King Kong. I don't know why but I thought that maybe Cillian and Naomi might have better chemistry. XD

Since I've just been refreshed on it... I would love to have seen Cillian as Robert DeNiro's character McCauley in Heat. Here was a guy who was as skilled as they come in his unsavory line of work, ruthless and determined and unstoppable... yet trying to fit romance into a life where it just can't flourish, let alone survive. The scene where he abandons Edie in his car, because he has disciplined himself to put his safety and hers ahead of anything else, is truly heartwrenching yet realistic.

My all time fave film ATM is Atonement and I love James McAvoy to death but I thought that Cillian might have done a brilliant job with Robbie too if given the chance.

My all time fave film ATM is Atonement and I love James McAvoy to death but I thought that Cillian might have done a brilliant job with Robbie too if given the chance. I absolutely loved Atonement, too, and I completely agree. Cillian would've been awesome in that role. I think James and Cillian can easily be interchangeable in their roles. I don't know why. Similar acting styles?? Except maybe James is a bit stronger when it comes to comedy. I also think Cillian would've been great in Jonathan Rhys Meyer's role in Match Point. I loved that movie. It had a great story, romance, suspense, everything. Don't get me wrong though; JRM was absolutely fantastic in his role. I think the whole cast was pretty much great in their respective roles, but if I could change things around, of course I'd love for Cillian to be in it. I think I'd keep Matthew Goode (he's so hot) and Emily Mortimer (love her) and trade in Rachel McAdams for Scarlett. I'm just not a big fan of Scarlett although she's not too bad of an actress. Or Rachel can even take Emily's role, and Scarlett stay in her role. Yeah, as you can tell, I'm still waiting for that next Cillian/Rachel movie...

I sort of have a thing for Cillian playing immaculately well-dressed, domineering type A bad boys (ahem, Dr. Crane and Jackson so I think he would have been really hot as Edward Grey in the movie Secretary. The character is basically Jackson if he was a lawyer instead of a terrorist and only slightly less of an arsehole. Same type-A-ness though.

I'd love to see Cillian as part of the cast in Closer. It's one of my favorite movies. He'd be great in Jude's role as Dan.

I didn't have time to read all 11 pages, so someone might have already said this, but I think he would've been good as Lestat in Interview With a Vampire.

I think Cillian would have done well acting out the part of Jack Torrance in the Shining. Somehow I can see him doing really well in that type of role - much as I know Jack Nicholson's performance would be a challenge for anyone else to beat.
Another thought that also comes to mind is that he'd probably do pretty well playing the part of Martin Burney in Sleeping Wiith The Enemy if it ever got re-done. I think he'd be every bit as good as Patrick Bergin - if not even better!
