Has anyone seen the documentary Food Inc.? I was told it offered incredible insight into the meat industry.

Never seen.I've just seen the trailer then and I don't know.. I mean, many documentaries deal with the subject but in a way I could describe as keyhole journalism, showing horrible methods in food processing industry but does not deal with the other problems like the weight of culture. In many parts of the world, centuries after centuries, people have got used to eat meat even today as if only meat could give strengh and muscles. But I do sport since my childhood and did it in high competition and I am vegetarian. So there is a strong problem with ideology too. There are many problems about hygiene but they never talk about people who even can't imagine eat an animal both it is a creature like us and especially because nothing would never clean it up enough.Cleaning an animal is not cleaning an object. In fact, the documentaries or films never deal with all the opinions but just the most common ones. But give me your opinion about Food Inc,does it worth?
ps:I have Fast Food Nation in DVD(I liked the subject and I like Greg Kinnear as actor)..and I have been deceived..It is the mirror of what I was saying.

It was meant for omnivores. I heard so much hype about it that I thought it must contain things that I hadn't seen before. It would have been more effective in pursuading towards a vegetarian lifestyle had they shown the results from the mad cow scare in Europe. Unfortunately, that has been long forgotten here in the states. However, they did mention a chicken 'farm' that is about an hour drive from my home. If you drive anywhere close to it, say a five mile radius, your eyes and nose burn and the smell is unbelievable. It is nearly impossible for anyone to eat meat after driving past. It must be an inate sense that tells passersby to never eat meat again. I would bet the US meat industry is much worse than the movie told. You are right! We get flack daily for not eating meat! I think I look pretty good, no muscle lack. I do P90X exercise system with no problems. I might start a thread about exercise. Maybe get an accountability group together. I will think about it.

I forgot it was for omnivores, absolutely. Hum,maybe the mad cow scare made realise the risk of meat to a larger amount of people,I guess.Basically,I don't have issues about empathy but I have to say that it is difficult for me to guess how the meat-eater's brain works.. Of course you look good and you're a veggie so.. I hate this hypocritical propaganda which describes vegetarian people as less strong as the others.Navratilova is a veggie, she is a strengh of nature, isn't she? That is nonsense. I'm totally in your idea of thread and .. ps: I prefer not to imagine how awful thechicken farm must be..brrr..

I actually have to give you vegetarians credit, it's hard to be one. I tried when I was younger and I ended up with an eating disorder. Vegetarians have the upper hand. seriously

You know Bunnie..When you've almost always have been one(I mean I ate meat when I was 6 because I was too young to decide by myself but at 10 I stopped, forever)you have more difficulties to imagine being an omnivore than a veggie. For my part,I am even disguted at the thought of meat so..

I hope you have gotten over your eating disorder Bunnie. Everyone has to do what is right for themselves. Your health is what counts.

My top two favorite actors are vegetarian, including Cilly. I have something for vegetarians. No clue why...

Since I posted on this thread about 2 years ago (veggie and always was) I have found that using fresh herbs and spices in your dishes really kicks veg dishes into orbit! I throw a tizzy fit in the grocery store if I can't find any rosemary! I have some lovely recipies if anybody wants them...

I'd love to hear some of your recipes- i definitely agree, herbs add loads of flavour. And they're so much healthier than salt.

I would too. I'm not a Vegetarian, but would love to spice up some veggy dishes. I use to have a vegetarian cookbook, but the meals seemed too complicated to make, and plus some of the ingredients couldn't be found around here, so I got rid of it.

Ohh ok LOL well there's just ones i kinda throw together but if you get a steamed Tilda rice packet and heat up some red palm oil or just oil, add one onion diced, throw in 4 cardomom pods and a couple of cloves, heat it up then add the rice, chopped sugar snaps, a small bunch of fresh chopped coriander, a small can of sweetcorn then if you are not vegan... bung in a a couple of eggs and stir in slowly until cooked. The best veggie special fried rice ever!
