So... I realize that I've been gone for an extremely long time. And I've realized that, in my absence, there has been a huge influx of members from far and wide. With that said, I wanted to re-introduce myself, to those of you that may already know me (and those of you that don't know me). I'm Shannon.  I am the owner of cillianONLINE (which has been inactive for quite some time now). However, I've been trying to get back into the swing of things to possibly revive cillianONLINE. Only time will tell for right now. I've been a member of the forum for quite some time now. This forum was not originally mine. It was created by a lovely woman (and Cillian fan) named Jo. She passed away a few years ago from cancer. Prior to her death, she gave the forum to me. I'm sure all this doesn't really matter to any of you... But, anyway. I'm going to be back on here periodically. I realize that I've abandoned a lot of things on here. So, if you guys have any questions, please please please feel free to PM me. I'll try and get on here as often as possible to check things out. Welcome one and all! |

Hi Shannon. Even though I don't know you I'm glad you're coming back! ;D I had no idea bout any of the stuff that had been going on, like why alot of the original posters didn't come on much anymore, but I understand more now. I've only been here since July so I still feel kinda like a newbie compared to the people who have been here for a few years! I've really enjoyed this forum since I got here and I hope to stay a constant poster for a long time to come! I hope you can get cillianONLINE active again, it seemed like a really cool site! OMG, I knew that Jo gave up the forum because she was fighting cancer (she messaged me when she transferred the forum to you), but I didn't know she didn't beat it until I read this post. She was so awesome; I am saddened to hear this... and she had a daughter.  |

I realize that I've abandoned a lot of things on here... Sad how predictable it was that the return of this forum's administrator would only last a few weeks. Shannon goes AWOL for long periods and is, by her own admission, no longer an active fan of Cillian. The CillianSite Collective offered to administer this forum, just to make sure someone active in the fan community had the master keys to this, the original forum before Shannon disappeared permanently into the Internet ether, as she embarked upon college, her adult life and new interests. (We at The CillianSite have no desire to start a competing forum, because why spread the conversation thin?) We also suggested that if that wasn't agreeable that she should give admin rights to another current, active forum member. Some of the moderators, none of whom are active now, were all for this. But Shannon took the suggestion in a defensive, distorted way, rather than hear the fact that we're just trying to look out for the long-term life of this community. She would rather hang on to her title as sole administrator -- even though she's not an active Cillian fan -- than allow this community to ensure access to its own forum and get regular updates and upgrades. It was only because of our urging her to give someone else admin rights that she posted for a brief time (for the first time in a year), updated the outdated announcements, created a chat area (is anyone using it?), announced cheerfully that she was back, then, quite predictably, disappeared again. If something goes wrong with this forum technically, or if the announcements become a year old again, the only person who can correct this is Shannon. This forum needs at least a second admin who's active, simply for security reasons. The proboards people will not help active members of this community with problems if they don't have admin rights. Shannon is rarely here, and she's not very interested in Cillian or this community. I suggest that if others are concerned with the long-term health of this forum, and they are active, dedicated members, that they should contact Shannon (tearcharmer [at] hotmail) and propose themselves as alternate administrators. Maybe after a few years of Shannon's disinvolvement and continual requests from community members to help out as admins, she'll finally choose someone to be a steward of this, the original Cillian fan forum. Having an active, responsible admin would truly honor the tireless, daily dedication of its late founder to Cillian fans. I doubt that Jo's intention was to "give" the forum to Shannon, for her to own whether or not she took any interest in it. I would guess that Jo wanted Shannon to ensure that her forum lived on for the community of Cillian fans that participates in it -- an admin's duty is to safeguard, update and administer the forum for that community. So if Shannon is not going to do that, there should at least be a second admin who will. It could be anyone who's active and responsible. Alright, that's my last word on this topic. I suppose if no one takes any action and this forum ever goes down and is not revived, the dedicated fans will all find each other somewhere else (though it won't have these discussions in its archives)... |

I would love to become one of the administrators! But I'm not really sure if I qualify or what all the responsibilities are. I'm a very active poster, as you can probably tell and I have no desire to leave this forum or my passion for Cillian. Melty_Girl if you could give me any advice I'd be really thankful! |

To answer your questions... To me, you qualify because you're a dedicated regular and Cillian devotee, but I don't have the power to make you an administrator - only Shannon does. The job of the main administrator is to update/retire permanent announcements and banners, delete offensive material, create/retire thread categories, and address any technical problems with the forum with the proboards people (it has few, but if it has even one glitch and Shannon is AWOL, then that's that). On the non-technical side, admins sometimes try to start conversations and topics to invite participation and excite people about the community. My main advice is as it was in my previous message: contact Shannon about being an adminstrator. It's up to you and Shannon how that conversation would go. I have no say in it. It would be great to have an active administrator here! It is hard to keep this place alive, when it is looking half dead. This is a great place with many informative threads and it would truly be a shame to loose it. I support the great initiative. |
